Many Electric Blankets have really big problems and should be used with CAUTION !!!
The problems besides the high Electromagnetic Fields and Electromagnetic Radiation is that the switches are also not always mounted correctly or are not working correctly as intended. Yes, they will open the circuit when switched off, to stop the electricity from flowing through the electric blanket, but this alone does not really help you much, as there is still the ELECTRICAL FIELD, which does not need any closed circuit to cause problems and expose your body to bombardment by electrical fields at 50/60 Hz, when the phases (Live and Neutral) are connected the wrong way round. This is called "reverse polarity" and "phasing".

What I want to say is that it is just not enough to switch the electric blanket off, as it depends on at least 2 factors - which I will call design and construction flaws being a Health Risk leading to Health Problems in the end.

  1. The switch used is only a 1 pole switch cutting the line only on the Live or Neutral side of the power line. and even if it would be on the correct side - the Live wire - it would still not be safe enough, if the plug used is a 2-pin plug. as there is no guaranty that the correct phases are connected for it to work properly, cutting the Live and not the Neutral wire.
  2. Replacing any plugs and not observing the correct polarity will have a critical effect, as the Electromagnetic Fields and Electromagnetic Radiation is not stopped from leaking into your sleeping area. This is especially important of the switch is not a 2-pole switch.

Electric Blankets radiate fields over 70,000 times higher than normal acceptable levels. If you insist on using an electric blanket, warm your bed and then unplug it before you retire for the night. Do not leave it plugged in while you sleep, even if it is turned off. Outside high voltage power lines continually radiate EMF 24 hours a day.

To make a long story short:

Please do not use an electric blanket, while in bed !!

Just use the electric blanket to warm up your bed and then UNPLUG it before you retire to bed !!
